BadLand Bad Boy

(aka Cigg Nasty, Track Bas-tard, Plastered Wack, Old Burnt Turn Slick, Pier Wave Form, etc..)

(That's the Elegant Hipster Swiss Beats in the picture w/ Wave Form)

ok      BadLand Bad Boy has been writing songs and playing guitar long before I ever knew him, and those songs are good and have a small following, but one day something happened inside this guy's head and he's not been the same since. Maybe it was a bad batch of turpentine, an uncooked cornish game hen, or a bleak stare down with an alternate reality. I don't know what it was, but since that moment (about four years ago) he's been writing "music for underwater welders." In this time, BadLand has slowly moved to the top of my list as one of the best guitar players and songwriters that I have heard, and not just locally. I keep disregarding these feelings as bias, since he is a good friend and we share the stage often. But man, the more I listen, I know it's true. This is the real deal and I'm just glad I get to witness the progress unfold. ok
It's fresh, honest, fearless, and a bit off-kilter. Chances are it will take multiple listens to get a grasp of the Old Burnt style, which is usually the case with fresh sounds. Once it finally clicks, you get the pleasant feeling of being mauled over by fresh, sometimes bizarre creativity and sea otters. It's not hard to hear the huge influence from Mississippi John Hurt, as his number one inspiration in the BadLand fingerpicking style. You may find remnants of some of his other favorites (e.g. Townes van Zandt, Daniel Johnston) but the rest is all BadLand and his uncanny approach to song forms.
The music that was recorded before the "bleak stare down" was compiled and self-released as a triple-disc entitled Musica Obscura. It's wild and crazy, and has some real gems on it that are still some of his most requested tracks.  Since then he has been on a constant tear of writing, recording, and creating. The product is an series of self-released e.p. length recordings listed as follows:  Are you sh***ing on me?, The (B)lack Album, Pretty Boy Plays Guitar, One Last Haul, Snicker Doodle Reposity, Spiked Like Poseidon's Trident, You Don't Owe Me Money, Stars & Bars, Funny Maker Magic Money, Burning Moonlight, Hell no I'm not Happy, Toothpicks, Blood ain't Cool anymore That's a Rule, The Surf Album, Finger Pickin' Good, Verse Chorus, and his latest release, Too Legitimate to Quitimate (Quit a Minute). I recommend picking these up at a show while you can. They may not always be this personalized.

Most of these recordings feature collaborations with other creative/crazy minds in the BadLand circle, such as the brilliant K-Pac, the trifflin' Tyslon, the clever KT-C, the Elegant Hipster Swiss Beats, the disgusting Mad Cow, stingin' Storey, Young Duke, the illustrious Scott Awesome, and many others that I'm forgetting for now.   Sorry about that.
