Weekend highlights

Friday night Thunderbolt Patterson returns to Old Havana to deliver their excellent rock and blues sounds. They never cease to amaze me.

Another Fine Mess can be heard blasting out of McCrobie’s, and the Schroeder’s Courtyard offers another new band, Free Will Offering.

It’s the Chiaha Harvest Festival this year which I have attended as long as I can remember. It’s always a really nice time with some good eats, many artists and craftsmen, and great acoustic based music. It makes for a great fall afternoon.

On Saturday there are many impressive musicians including nationally touring autoharp guru Bryan Bowers, Calhoun’s beloved Faye Pierce, and the expert blues guitar slingers Delta Moon.

There will be a concert benefiting the Aids Resource Council in the Schroeder’s Courtyard featuring local world/rock fusion band Devidasa, who I really enjoyed hearing last time. Good opportunity to get your donations worth.

Downstream will be bringing some heavy sounds to McCrobie’s as well.

The Chiaha Festival continues on with more great art and music. I particularly enjoy the dog costume segment of the day. There will also be two great local songwriters performing, David Elliott and Calvin Snow, as well as the Thunderbelt Patterson powerduo, and Chattanooga favorite Jennifer Daniels, whose music career is constantly on the up and up. She’s great.
