…as seen in HometownHeadlines.com

This year I am very thankful for many things, one of which is that our downtown nightlife is once again full of vitality. And, every year partiers all over the country consider Thanksgiving weekend an extended weekend, starting with Wednesday. Rome is absolutely no exception and the entire weekend is packed with top shelf music.

TONIGHT

Jon Byrd performs acoustic country rock at McCrobie’s for the dinner crowd.

The Moon Roof Bar hosts the songwriting talent of David Bell, who also dips deep into the pool of rare rock covers.

The Pollard Greens Jazz Quartet adds a twist to the evening with live jazz at Bistro 239.

McCrobie’s will have the alternative rock blaring from the sounds of Point O Eight, one of Rome’s loudest.

Kneckdown will be playing at The Pear as the original acoustic two-piece that they started out as years ago at that same venue.

THURSDAY

Turkey Day. Not sure what’s open. Call venues first.

FRIDAY

Friday night brings the Return of the Jedi, or Red Eye Jedi to Club Peach in their first show in over two years.

Buck & Duke will perform an acoustic show at The Pear. Those guys have it down acoustic or electric.

Clayton Jones & The Mad Poets will be hosting a night of great originals and choice songwriting classics. These guys have been on a tear in November.

Another Fine Mess will be rocking the crowd at McCrobie’s.

SATURDAY

Capt. Soularcat is always good to Rome around the holidays. They will no doubt pack out McCrobie’s for a welcome visit, especially after releasing their latest CD of raw bluesy rock.

Thunderbolt Patterson is guaranteed quality picking and playing, as I’ve said many times. Saturday they will be at Opi’s Waterfront to keep on crunching out the best.

Michael Jack will be performing acoustic country rock at The Pear.

The holiday season is sneaking up quick and with it comes many opportunities to enjoy Downtown Rome’s vibrant nightlife.

TONIGHT

Enjoy a nice dinner at Harvest Moon while listening to the music of Russell McClanahan and his friends. Russell is one of the most respected musicians in the area and his entourage brings even more talent to the table.

Backswing also entertains the dinner crowd once again at McCrobie’s with an assortment of classic songs.

If you enjoy the homegrown holiday music and spirits make sure to visit the 400 Block to see Clayton Jones & The Mad Poets, who also provide that down home quality

Americana music.

FRIDAY

On Friday night Clayton Jones & The Mad Poets will bring their rootsy sounds to the Moon Roof Bar in case you didn’t get enough on Thursday.

McCrobie’s brings some high test rock and roll with 3rd Chamber, a young group out of

Dalton.

Backlash jumps back in the scene with a loud 80’s rock show at Club Peach. Check them out to hear all your favorites from the unforgettable days of hair metal amongst other classics.

SATURDAY

Natalie and Greg Ruddell have been all over the

Georgia music scene in one form or fashion since the early 1990’s. This brother/sister combo has worn out stages in many different bands and many genres of music since then.  On Saturday night at the Moon Roof Bar they will return to

Rome
’s music scene as Precious Lemons, an acoustic, roots based group with fresh original songwriting. Muletide Perkins will also be performing original songs throughout the evening.

Local favorite Scott Thompson and Peachtree Station will undoubtedly pack out McCrobie’s as they have done many times before. Scott is excellent by himself and with Peachtree Station the ante is upped for some quality country rock music.

TONIGHT

The Rome Area Songwriter’s Association will be featuring three local songwriters at the Rome Area Council for the Arts on Broad Street. This month it’s David Bell, Dennis Ray, and Pamela Kirk. Everyone is welcome.

Clayton Jones and the Mad Poets will continue to liven up the Thursday night crowd at the 400 Block Bar, which always expands around the holidays.

FRIDAY

Chattanooga based power pop rocker Jason Lyles will play at the Moon Roof Bar. Don’t worry. They have it winter proofed for comfortable cold weather deck visiting. So does Buffalo’s. Well done, venues.

Dry County Band will be at McCrobie’s to bring some Gordon County Southern rock.

SATURDAY

Better than a propane heater Punk rock show at Schroeder’s with Unseen Stimuli, Nosecone Prophets, and Before the Solstice. These guys don’t even care if it’s cold, or if rains for that matter.

Opi’s Waterfront is now open and serving food and drinks and live music. Opi’s has been a hit in Shannon and Adairsville. I’m glad they got that great location to try their hand at Rome. I was pleased top find out that this Saturday Thunderbolt Patterson is scheduled to do what they do, which is blow people away.
