I am pleased to announce that the musical options for New Year’s Eve are like a Best of 2008 showcase. It’s been a great year for music in

Rome and I have enjoyed watching it unfold. Here’s this year’s NYE participants in no apparent order.

The North Georgia Blues Brothers started out as a one-time gig for fun but managed to have multiple audiences begging for more. They will perform their fun show at MB’s Comedy & Event House with the Backstreet Boogie backing.

Black Friday and Mr. Mean’r will be hosting the party at Club Peach in its first NYE shindig. This is where the rock gets thick and heavy. Club Peach opened this year and their venue is excellent.

Backlash will rip through classic hits from the golden age of MTV rock & roll at McCrobie’s. This will make you wish you still had a tape deck in your car.

Thunderbolt Patterson will play their genre-spanning American roots rock at the Moon Roof Bar. This is David Bell and Tim Bowen of The Dirt Dobbers, who have blown us away all year.

Another Fine Mess is at Opi’s Waterfront. Another Fine Mess is perfect for a rip roarin’ New Year’s Eve. Opi’s is just the place. They opened this year in a welcome venue to a welcome crowd.

Red Eye Jedi has returned in ’08 and are playing at WOW Café & Wingery. WOW is also a welcome new venue and the return of the Jedi is an exciting thing.  I would try their hottest sauce for that show.

Buck & Duke have become local favorites with a hit record release, a single that locals can be proud of, and an impressive show of talented musicians. They will be playing with Kneckdown, who have also had a very successful year playing all over Georgia and

Alabama. They will be performing at the Skytop Lounge.

I am pleased to see that The Forum will host Scott Thompson & Peachtree Station, one of

Rome’s favorite bands of the past few years. Scott is an excellent performer and Peachtree Station add a great sound of country rock. I would love to see more shows like this at The Forum.

Caveat- Some of these venues are having specials and parties. I recommend contacting them first whether by calling or checking out their website for details. There are numbers and links to the venues the venue page of the website.

Sorry about that.  The calendar is live and full of great music for December.

Be Back Soon

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Hey yall. I know that the website is more out of date than it has since its inception. Have no fear.  I will have it back and ready to go in a few days. I had some issues with my traveldrive.  Or, at least, I lost it.

TONIGHT

Russell McClanahan and friends will provide family entertainment in the form of traditional string band music for the dinner crowd at Harvest Moon.

The one man soul/jazz/r&b band El’ Willie will perform classics of those genres at Old Havana.

Clayton Jones & The Mad Poets continue to rile the crowds at the 400 Block Bar at LaScala with contemporary roots based country rock.

FRIDAY

Black Friday will dish out their scorching Southern metal at Club Peach this Friday. I would have thought this band would be more likely to incite a trampling over the shopping day. But no worries parents, Club Peach is a very safe venue.

The stripped down acoustic version Kneckdown will play at The Pear. They are always crowd pleasers.

The McCrobie’s

Battle of the Bands series will come to a close and declare a winner in the grand finale providing yet one more opportunity to vote this season.

Thunderbolt Patterson is scheduled to rock the 400 Block Bar as they know how to do very well.

SATURDAY

The Holiday Tour of Art Spaces is a great annual event for good times and great art exhibits. On a side note, I used to really look forward to the Mata Luna performance at Joes Cook’s house. Unfortunately Rome has lost all three members now to Chattanooga, Raleigh, NC, and the

Czech Republic. But don’t let that stop you. It’s always a pleasant evening regardless.

Dry County will perform their classic rock and blues at The Pear and acoustic country singer Michael Jack will hold down the fort at McCrobie’s.

The dynamic duo double teams the weekend a Thunderbolt Patterson performs Saturday night at Opi’s Waterfront. These guys are in demand.
