Velcro Pygmies to lead off great weekend of music

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

…as seen on HometownHeadlines.com…

TONIGHT

The Velcro Pygmies will return to McCrobie’s. Hands down, these guys put on a great show and always have the place jumping with excitement. If you’ve never seen these guys, its something to see for sure.

El Willie will be performing his combination of jazz, r&b, and soul at Old Havana. He’s held down the Thursday night spot there for a reason.

Russell McClanahan and the mOOn Crew will be doing their thing in the Harvest Moon dining room, which is entertaining dinner guests with their homage to old time string band music.

FRIDAY

Rome’s First Friday Concert Series presents yet another great act for people to see for free at Bridgepoint Plaza. This month it’s Ben Deignan and Suburban Soul. Deignan is a soulful Atlanta-based songwriter who has been making a name for himself in the past few years. One of our local favorites, Chris Price, plays bass.

McCrobie’s brings it all weekend with Black Friday playing on Friday. These guys have built up a loyal crowd over the years and perform the fire out of some Southern rooted heavy metal.

Maximum Nutrition’s 3rd Annual Roman Classic Bodybuilding Competition is happening this Saturday but on Friday night in the Schroeder’s Courtyard, they’re having a little pre-party concert. Keith Ozment, Muletide Perkins and Blackwater Moonshine are scheduled to play for whoever wants to show up and have a good time.

Red Eye Jedi has kept the first Friday of every summer month interesting as they play a post-First Friday concert at the 400 Block Bar. This will be a great follow up to Ben Deignan.

SATURDAY

As I mentioned before Maximum Nutrition’s Roman Classic is being held at the Rome City Auditorium. Competitors from Rome and all over the Southeast will be in attendance to show off what they’ve been working for and to try to come away with the first place. It has been a great time the two previous years.

The Precious Lemons are returning to the stage at the Schroeder’s Courtyard. Last time they had to cut it short because of the weather but they still put on a great show in the time that was allowed. These guys have played collectively for many years. The talent is abundant and the songs are great.

McCrobie’s bring about another wild night with Back In Black, an AC/DC tribute bend from Texas. They will be saluting those about to rock and doing dirty deeds for dirt cheap.
