The lowdown on downtown Rome entertainment

(as seen on HometownHeadlines.com)

By Bryan Mullins of Mullinsmania.com

Much ado about Thanksgiving. Once again, the holidays bring excitement and vigor to the local nightlife and music scene.

TONIGHT

justin-moore.jpgJustin Moore has recently blown up the airwaves with his hits “Small Town USA” and “Back that Thing Up.” If you haven’t caught his videos on CMT, you can view them from his web site. He’s scheduled to perform all over the country, including Rome at The Forum tonight at the long-awaited First Annual Turkey Jam at The Forum featuring Moore, rising artist Brantley Gilbert and local favorites and proud Romans, KneckDown.

The Groundhawgs always have a big time and a big turnout when they host their holiday blowouts at the 400 Block. The band is fronted by Clayton and Clark Jones and always features an amazing rotation of talented string band musicians. Regardless of the lineup, a grand time is always in store.

David Bell is a staple of the Georgia music scene. After fronting the Dirt Dobbers, he has continued to perform solo and with Tim Bowen in Thunderbolt Patterson. The amount of respect he carries from local songwriters and musicians is immense. He’ll be performing tonight at the Moon Roof Bar.

 THURDAY

Not really sure if anything’s open. Enjoy the day and exercise gratitude.

FRIDAY

Scott Thompson is a definite favorite around these parts. He’s entertained crowds around here for years now with a wide selection of material. He’ll surely have a great crowd and a great time at 333 on Broad.

redeyelogo.jpgRed Eye Jedi is definitely one of Rome’s more unique acts. These guys have been playing together long enough now that it’s just too easy for them to drop some space funk that you wouldn’t believe. They’re great if you’d like to take a ride on a sonic rollercoaster. They will be setting up shop at the 400 Block Bar on Friday.

Country and Southern rock artists, The Jake Leggs, will be returning to the Moon Roof Bar for a night of great times and good music.

SATURDAY

claybroome-blog.jpgClay Broome is a man of many bands. He’s most known around here for fronting his own band of the same name. However, he’s been all over the place this year, playing lead guitar all over the Southeast with Willie Heath Neal and playing bass with the Precious Lemons. On Saturday, Clay returns with his punk, country, and blues influenced no mercy rock show that we all miss. This will all go down at the 400 Block Bar.

streeter-blog.jpgThe Moon Roof Bar will feature raw and original country rock from Muletide Perkins, and his group of merry men including bassist Hardup McGizzle and drummer Old Burnt Turn Slick a/k/a BadLand Bad Boy, who will also perform original songs on the guitar.

The Cornbread Killers are an excellent rock and roll trio featuring three very talented individuals Jeff Caldwell, Jeff Bridges and Shane West. With great originals and solid renditions of some of rock ‘n’ roll’s favorites, it’s a great show. Tonight they’ll be performing at The Peach Palace.

Josh Ray fronts an Atlanta based trio with influences in rock, soul and funk. He’ll be bringing his soulful sound to 333 on Broad.

Have fun and be careful and responsible. Don’t be the guy that nobody wants to have around.

Matt D and Mullins in the Morning

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

theridge.jpgWhat do you think? I think it’s got a nice ring to it. Starting Monday, November 23rd, I’ll be joining Matt D every morning on 95.7 FM The Ridge from 7 to 9am. I have been doing a Mullins Mania report every Friday at 8, so I’m familiar with the studio. We just have a real good time in there and apparently the listeners don’t seem to mind too much either. So, we’re going to be playing your favorite songs from the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s, offering great prizes and getting your day started on the right foot. I know I’m really excited to be able to wake up and listen to music for two hours every morning. I know the Ridge Runners love it too. So don’t forget to join us Monday through Friday on Matt D and Mullins in the Morning on 95.7 The Ridge, Northwest Georgia’s home for Classic Hits.
