THURSDAY

Russell McClanahan & the mOOn Crew are a group of talented individuals of all ages that get together every Thursday night and pay homage to that old time string band music by playing classics, originals, and modern tunes in that style. They perform every Thursday evening for the dinner crowd at Harvest Moon.

Atlanta area musician Billy Florkowski will return to 333 on Broad to perform an evening of choice covers.

Muletide Perkins will set up at the 400 Block Bar in order to play some acoustic country blues originals and have a grand ol’ time.

FRIDAY

How on earth does one record over 150 hit records in a career? Somehow four-time Grammy winner and Country Music Hall of Fame legend, George Jones, has managed to do just that. In a career that has been rocky and rewarding, Jones has managed to become one of the most well known and respected musicians in American culture. He’ll be performing this Friday night at The Forum to a packed crowd, no doubt.

Local favorite Scott Warren & the Collard Green Berets will be performing at 333 on Broad into the night. George Jones fans will have the opportunity to follow up with one of Rome’s most talented songwriters and musicians.

This is the final weekend of Rome Little Theatre’s production of My Fair Lady. Last weeks performances have been a hit and the talk of the town. The show runs Friday and Saturday evenings, and finishing with a matinee on Sunday.

All Things Artistic will hold an open mic night for anyone who wants to share their talents. Songwriting, poetry, prose, comedy, or any talent you have to share is fair game.

The Red Ruckus is a young banjo and fiddle combo that picks that old time string band music. They will perform at Café 212 in Rockmart.

SATURDAY

Mr. Mean’r has been playing some fantastic shows at Kilroy’s Bar in VFW Post 4911 on the Cedartown Highway. They’ll be back at it on Saturday. These guys are a high energy party band and perform some classics from multiple genres and decades. Everyone is welcome and veterans get in for free.

Corey Smith is an up and coming country artists that has been coming up fast. He’s been selling out shows all over the Southeast and his latest album, Keeping Up With the Joneses, shows no signs of him slowing down. He’ll be packing out The Forum this Saturday evening. Kind of interesting that one of his biggest influences will be performing there the night before. I bet that’s a good feeling.

Tyler Reeve is an Atlanta area Americana and folk artist. His music is highly influenced by some Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen, and Townes van Zandt, to name a few. He’ll be playing at 333 on Broad Saturday night.

TONIGHT – St. Patty’s Day.

shamrock-copy.jpg

My how this year has flown by. It’s already time to break out your green, your Irish accent, and your “Kiss Me” buttons. St. Patrick’s Day is here and so are the festivities. If your bored tonight, it’s your own fault. However, people tend to over indulge on this day. Please keep it cool and safe.

Schroeder’s pizza rocks. Today you’ll want to try “The Leprechaun,” a green pesto pizza with spinach, feta, green olives, and green peppers. Goes well with a pitcher of green beer, too.

The 400 Block Bar will be celebrating St. Patrick shenanigans with live music by Stephen Smith & Southern Thread. One of the most ripping guitarists around now has a backup band, which I can’t wait to hear.

333 on Broad is going all out with a pair of Rome’s finest musicians in Scott Warren and Matt Chambers. If that wasn’t enough cause for celebration, they’ll also be having green beer specials all day as well.

Another one of Rome’s finest and most celebrated musicians will be performing at the Moon Roof Bar. David Bell will be there to host the St. Patty’s day festivities up there.

They’re also throwing down at the Rome Braves stadium with happy hour, food, karaoke, and more green beer. This one you can start early at, 4 p.m..

Foul Play will deliver the heat with in your face rock ‘n’ roll at the Peach Palace for their St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

THURSDAY: Quiet night

Rest. Relax. Recover. There’s more fun coming this weekend.

FRIDAY: Jon Byrd at Moon Roof; Muletine at All Things Artistic

Jon Byrd will be performing at the Moon Roof Bar, one of his favorite places to play. Jon is a man of many talents and fortunately for music lovers, this is one of them.

dunebuggymuletideweb-blog.jpg

It’s a “Pin the Tail on the Muletide” celebration at All Things Artistic. Since Muletide is actually a version of my own self, I’m hoping that by “pin” they mean “tape”. Regardless, it will definitely be fun and games. We’ll be bringing in the spring with country blues originals and good times.

Ross Copely will return to 333 on Broad for an evening of acoustic tunes.

The Rome Little Theatre will be opening up their presentation of “My Fair Lady” at the Historic DeSoto Theater.

SATURDAY: ‘Murder’ downstairs, Thomas Tillman upstairs at 333

333 on Broad hosts the last performance of “Murder at the Tony (Lou) Awards” put on by Acts of Random Theater (A.R.T.). It’s an awards show spoof that is a guaranteed good time for all, and a great dinner too.

Thomas Tillman had a huge year in 2009 winning the Georgia Country Male Artist of the year and Georgia Country Artist of the year award. He’ll swing back by Rome for a night of country originals at 333 on Broad.

I’m extremely glad to see that Kilroy’s Bar at VFW Post 4911 is putting themselves on the local music map. Saturday night, they’ll be cranking out some great tunes with two bands that both demand to be called Mr. It’s Mr. Mean’r and Mr. Synyster. You’ll definitely want to swing by.

The Cornbread Killers will be setting up shop at the Peach Palace. These guys are extremely talented and play some great originals and choice covers to boot.

Sandi Patty has and continues to have excellent success with her inspirational music and this Saturday evening, she’ll be bringing her positive message to the Cedartown Performing Arts Center.

The local drama group Acts of Random Theater (A.R.T.) will perform a dinner theatre this Friday and Saturday at 333 on Broad. It’s an awards show spoof called Murder at the Tony (Lou) Awards. Sounds like a real good time and some great eats.

Blu Train is a group of local musicians who get together and blast out classic rock favorites. Last time I saw them they really brought the heat. Friday night, they’ll take the stage at 333 on Broad for more.

Jason Lyles is a Chattanooga based musician that is no stranger to Rome. He’ll return to the Moon Roof Bar this Friday night to perform an upbeat mix of power pop, alternative, and Southern rock originals.

SATURDAY: Thunderbolt Patterson lights up Old Havana

Murder at the Tony (Lou) Awards at 333 on Broad. (see Friday)

The guitar powerhouse of Thunderbolt Patterson will return to Old Havana for a night of great originals and deep cut classics from the wide realm of blues, rock, and roots. These guys put on a great show every time. That I can assure you.

The Nest has moved to Mount Berry Square and has been hosting live music just the same. Saturday night, they’ll bring a double feature of two great local artists, Andrew Watson and Jon Byrd.

The Peach Palace will be cranking out the rock ‘n’ roll with Curiosity Shoppe and 53 to Nowhere (formerly known as Haven.)

Here we are, approaching the ninth weekend of 2010 and I’d have to say it has already been a fantastic year for live music in Rome. As spring approaches, we can only expect more.

Tonight: Imagine opens a busy weekend of downtown entertainment

imagineberry-blog.jpg

-The Rome City Auditorium will host the opening night of Imagine, the 13th annual Berry College Dance Troupe concert. Expressions of tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, modern contemporary, and Latin dance will be exhibited throughout the evening. The troupe will perform Friday evening as well and perform two shows on Satruday.

Russell McClanahan & the mOOn Crew will be picking and strumming old time string band music for the dinner crowd at Harvest Moon.

Friday: Scott Thompson upstairs at 333 on Broad

Local favorite Scott Thompson returns to 333 on Broad Friday evening to play all kinds of songs that folks love. He always puts on a great show and brings a great vibe as well.

kanebrake-blog.jpg

Kanebrake is a fresh acoustic duo that plays unplugged styles of Southern rock and metal. They’ll be heading up from Acworth to perform at All Things Artistic. Once again, ATA continues with diverse music and programs.

Backswing is another local favorite and consists of a vast amount of talent and experience when it comes to rocking the crowd. Tonight, they’ll return to the Moon Roof Bar.

Saturday: Lemons, Hookers &Peach Palace. 333: meet The Hip-Notiks

Saturday night at 333 on Broad will be a band of familiar faces with a brand new name. The Hip-Notiks are Gene Brigham, John Schroeder, Kelly Lane and Jon Littlefield. They are members of The Beatless and the Hugh Jorgen Trio. Imagine the Beatless, without being restricted to only Beatles songs.

preciouslemonsmarch-blog.jpg

The 400 Block Bar offers up another great night of music with two great bands, Precious Lemons and The John Lee Hookers. The Lemons area a group of extremely talented individuals who you might file under Americana and rock. The John Lee Hookers are the latest Clay Broome experiment paying homage to blues and rock origins with a driving rhythm section.

Comedy returns to MB’s this Saturday evening bringing two hilarious entertainers to town. Greg Ray has 25 years of experience in stand up comedy and has made over 100 television appearances and has performed in all 50 states and 35 countries. Michelle Thomas may not be quite as experienced but who is? She’s no stranger to hilarity regardless. Both acts are clean comedians this month.

Another group of familiar faces that have donned an new name will perform at The Peach Palace this Saturday. 53 to Nowhere is the new name for the band that was formerly Haven. Under whatever name, these guys really know how to rock a crowd and will be doing just that.
