TONIGHT

Rome Little Theatre will host a special presentation of Clue the Musical for Ladies Night Out at the Historic DeSoto Theatre.

Schroeder’s Courtyard will host the final Poetry Night of the year. This month will feature select writers from this season and also will provide an opportunity for participants to read their poetry.

Russell McClanahan & the mOOn Crew will perform old-time string band music for the dinner crowd at Harvest Moon, which has become a welcome tradition.

Muletide Perkins will be celebrating the arrival of October tonight at the 400 Block Bar with original country blues tunes.

Jon Byrd will perform at 333 on Broad for a dinner show in the back bar. This provides for a great opportunity to wind down and relax to some great tunes and great food. Jon puts on a great show.

FRIDAY

Members of the Rome Area Songwriters Association will be celebrating their tenth anniversary in the Schroeder’s Courtyard where it all began. RASA celebrates the talent of original local songwriters and in return has provided a great forum for writers and listeners alike. Congratulations RASA! Those 10 years went fast. Friday’s show will feature many of the longtime members as well as some newer ones.

Atomic Boogie is one of the hottest bands in the Atlanta area when it comes to jump blues and rockabilly swing. They put on a fiery show every time and will be hosting a three band night of rock ‘n’ roll at Broad Street Station. Also sharing the bill are the smoking hot Psycho DeVilles and the country punk sounds of The Suicide Doors.

Cory Tucker is a talented fella who has become a local favorite over the years. He will return to 333 on Broad.

The Moon Roof Bar will host Backswing. Fronted by Lee Shealy and Alan Smith, these guys have an abundance of talent and enjoy playing your favorites.

SATURDAY

333 on Broad will have local Southern rock, blues, and country picker Scott Warren. Scott wails on the guitar and fills the room with booming vocals. He also brings an excellent vibe to make for a fun evening.

53 to Nowhere is the hard rock and metal band that was formerly known as Haven. These guys put on a great high energy rock show and will be doing just that Saturday at Broad Street Station.

Schroeder’s Courtyard presents the Dex Romweber Duo. North Carolina native Romweber has been playing in bands since he was 11 and was influenced by early rock and roll heroes like Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Richie Valens, and Little Richard. He formed the Flat Duo Jets in the mid ’80s, which became an underground favorite in the revamp of rockabilly during the golden age of MTV. Muletide Perkins Trio will open the show.

Jon Byrd will perform in the back bar at 333 on Broad for a dinner show in which the whole family is welcome. Jon sounds great and sets a fine tone in a laid back atmosphere.

Russell McClanahan & the mOOn Crew play old time string band music in the Harvest Moon dining room every Thursday. They pay homage to great oldies and put an old time spin on modern tunes as well.

FRIDAY

Last year’s Party on the Green was one of the most talked about events of the year. This is a fantastic event that benefits the Rome Area History Museum which does a wonderful job of keeping locals and visitors informed about Rome and the area’s rich history. The music lineup is stellar with Thunderbolt Patterson, Kneckdown and Blu Train. Tickets: 706-235-8051.

Sonia Leigh is an Atlanta-based folk rock and Americana artist who has been making some big sounds regionally and nationally (like opening up for Loretta Lynn last weekend in Connecticut). Her latest album Run or Surrender was released on Zac Brown’s label, Southern Ground, and has won her a growing national fanbase. She’ll be at 333 on Broad this Friday night.

The Cornbread Killers are awaiting a new CD that should be out any day now. I’m sure it’s going to be great. Jeff, Jeff, and Shane are all excellent musicians and they have a lot of great originals and some covers that aren’t too shabby either! The Moon Roof is a great place to catch these guys.

SATURDAY

Local favorites Backswing will return to 333 on Broad to play from an arsenal of classic tunes. These guys are pros and put on a great show with ease every time.

On Saturday, Schroeder’s Courtyard brings more fresh music to town. The Suex Effect is a funky trio from Athens that pulls from many influences including jazz, blues, reggae, and that heavy ’70s funk that just gets down right dirty. Folks looking for that great jam will be very pleased. Muletide Perkins Trio will open this show.

Time for another great punk rock house show! The Pox and The Mackeys are two bands that aren’t afraid to rock it out. It’s too bad that there aren’t very many (or any) places for bands of this sort to play. However, house shows are awesome anyway, so good for them. This one will be this Saturday at 7 Myrtle Street.

Scarlet City will be cranking it up and delivering some heavy alternative rock sounds at Broad Street Station. These local favorites have no problem with bringing the heat.

This weekend full of great tunes and opportunities to get out and enjoy the weather!

THURSDAY

The Thursday night dinner crowd at 333 on Broad has been enjoying the music of Jon Byrd in the back bar. He sounds great and the atmosphere is perfect for a laid back dinner whether flying solo or taking the family.

Broad Street Station is excited about bringing country rocker Brantley Gilbert who has been touring all over the Southeast, promoting his latest album, Halfway to Heaven. Shawn Ash will open.

FRIDAY

There’s great music every which way you turn this weekend.

Francisco Vidal has been a long-term staple in the Atlanta area singer/songwriter scene and he has made a nice home away from home here in Rome at 333 on Broad. He’ll be back Friday to put on a great evening of acoustic music.

My Ninja is a recent formation that has been getting some great response in the few shows that they have played so far. It’s fresh, funky, keyboard-driven and reminiscent of the ’80s underground sound. They’ll be at the 400 Block Bar.

Studio 712 presents an evening of jazz with the Pollard Greens Jazz Quartet. This is a great opportunity to kick back at the City Club above Old Havana and enjoy one of Rome’s most refreshing acts in a very cool environment.

Zip Holland has played all over Northwest Georgia with and without his band Another Fine Mess. On Friday night, he’ll be playing to the good folks at the Moon Roof Bar.

SATURDAY

The morning weather has been beautiful lately and here are some great opportunities to get out and enjoy it as well as support some great local causes. The Coosa Valley Memory Walk will be held at Berry College and benefits the Alzheimer’s Association whose goal is to support people who suffer from Alzheimer’s and to find a cure. Also, the Rome Runners Club will host the annual Roman Rumble 5K at Ridge Ferry Park.

The Third Annual Rome Beer Festival will take place at Heritage Park. This has been a great event each year where people can sample a variety of beer and enjoy a nice afternoon at the park. The proceeds go to support the Rome Area Council for the Arts.

Saturday in the Park was a hit last year and it’s back this weekend. The event is put on by The Connections Club and benefits Habitat for Humanity. There will be dining, dancing, and music from the Pollard Greens Jazz Quartet, all at Ridge Ferry Park.

333 on Broad will host one of the spot’s favorite acts, Sam Hunt, a Cedartown native who has been working hard in Nashville and playing all over the Southeast looking to make some big moves in his budding recording career.

Legendary guitar virtuoso, Glenn Phillips, will return to the Schroeder’s Courtyard this Saturday. If you’re a guitar fan and you haven’t seen Glenn then you owe it to yourself to check it out. He’ll be performing with his instrumental Glenn Phillips Band as well as the Atlanta underground rockers Supreme Court.

The Precious Lemons return to the 400 Block Bar, where they have played solid shows every time. This is an all-star band featuring alternative Americana originals and classic deep track rock ‘n’ roll covers.

Muletide Perkins Trio will be enjoying the weather and celebrating bass player Hardup McGizzle’s birthday at the Moon Roof Bar. These guys always have a good time cranking out raw country blues originals.
