RSO’s Dr. Richard Prior wins Prestigious Award
The Rome Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director and Conductor Richard Prior has received the prestigious 2009-2010 Emory University Winship Faculty Award. This competitive award allows a senior faculty member to take a one-semester leave of absence to pursue a major research or creative project. Also a Pulitzer-nominated composer, Dr. Prior will be using the time to write both a clarinet concerto and his third symphony.
The clarinet concerto will be performed and recorded by the National Symphony of Ukraine, the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra late this summer and his third symphony will receive its premiere performance in October at Emory University.
Dr. Prior will however, continue to conduct the RSO throughout the season as well as the Emory University and Youth symphony.
